Tradition and Culture
Crofting, Sheep and Weaving
Welcome to The Weavers Cottage, situated in the beautiful crofting township of Leurbost, just 20 minutes south of Stornoway, perfectly sited to explore the Isles of Lewis and Harris. The traditional township has crofting life at its heart, surrounded by working croft land, immerse yourself in island culture.

The Weavers Cottage
luxurious comfort
Although it is not quite finished, it will be luxurious. Mind your head as you enter into a cosy porch, the original door height was obviously designed for shorter folk! The slate clad hall has a door turning into a comfortable bathroom, with free standing bath and walk-in shower. Turn right, up a step into an open plan kitchen-dining room with plenty of old furniture including the repurposed sink base. The master bedroom is on the ground floor for more space and to enable folk to stay who can't mange the stairs. Luxury touches will be everywhere in the form of handwoven tweed curtains, cushions, throws and lampshades. The kitchen has a comfortable farmhouse feel with lots of reclaimed furniture and wood. Upstairs there is a comfortable twin bedroom and a snug sitting room with views over to the mainland and the mountains of Harris. There is underfloor heating throughout and top spec insulation with an air source heat pump which provides a continual steady heat meaning the house is perfectly warm and doesn't fluctuate!
There will be a sauna, outside seating area, drying room for wet clothes and dogs and facilities for laundry. Hopefully everything you could possibly need for a perfect home-away-from-home!

The Weaving Shed
Craft, Heritage, Weaving
Our main business, The Weaving Shed, is quick drive down the road or a beautiful 15-20 minute walk. See the loom where all the tweed in the house was woven, find out about the heritage of the Hattersley loom and browse our studio shop. I make everything we sell in the shop, the majority unique one-off designs!

The Kitchen/ Dining Room
The Heart of the Home
The kitchen is well stocked with hopefully all you could need to cook proper meals, we stayed away at
Christmas one year and I wanted to supply enough cooking equipment that you could cook a full roast if you want to. Microwave, electric kettle, toaster, fridge, oven and hob. The sink base unit is an upcycled vintage sideboard! I made the ceramic knobs, and the rest of the furniture is all antique including the 100ish year old pine table my husband beautifully restored. The understairs cupboard has hooks for coats and a shoe rack as well as a hoover and basic cleaning supplies you can use if you want to. The walls are also covered in original paintings!

The Master Bedroom
Sleep in comfort
The master bedroom is downstairs providing easy access to the downstairs bathroom although there is the original stone doorstep in-between. It has a king-sized bed with orthopedic memory foam mattress, queen-size pure wool duvet, antique chest of drawers, oak bedside tables, upcycled wardrobe, window seat, cushions, curtains, lampshades and throws all in our own handwoven tweed. The walls are hung with original artworks mostly by myself. There is a TV for cosy bedtime films and choice of pure wool, goose feather and down or hypoallergenic orthopedic memory foam pillows!

The Twin Room
Comfortable companionship
The twin room is upstairs with two single beds with orthopedic memory foam mattresses, double pure wool duvets, two antique chest of drawers, hooks and hangers for any clothes that need to be hung, handwoven throws, cushions, blind and lampshades in our own tweed specially woven for the house. The pure wool rugs on the floor are handwoven and the walls are covered with original artworks. Choice of pure wool, goose feather and down or hypoallergenic orthopedic memory foam pillows!

The Living Room
Cosy relaxation
The living room is upstairs, first there is an upcycled antique desk that I painted with a seascape with an antique chair covered in our own tweed. Perfect for the work that can't wait till you get home! Next a vintage sideboard with books, games and puzzles. The living room itself has a three seater couch with chaise longue at one end and an armchair both in gorgeous brown leather. They are covered with sheepskins, handwoven throws and cushions for a decadent relaxing space. The artwork is all original painted by myself. The rugs on the floor were handwoven by ourselves on a wooden floor loom. The fireplace is purely decorative, in its original location with Victorian tiles, our tweed in the middle and recycled wood surround. The mantle is 180 year old African Azelea which we think was probably part of a ship, then dismantled or salvaged and used in a house, then used as a fence post before we reused it again!

The Bathroom
Get Luxuriously Clean!
The bathroom has a walk-in shower with excellent pressure thermostatic shower. There is a roll top free standing bath for long soaks with an art installation on the wall that I crafted from my ceramics and a piece of driftwood from the shore. There is a copper towel rack my husband made which complements the copper loo roll holder, hand towel holder and door hooks. I added hints of copper with raku to my ceramics to tie it all together! A sink and a toilet of course with another ceramic and driftwood art piece and a fantastic piece of driftwood I found in Uist. The soap dispenser is a hand-thrown ceramic in sea blue.

The Utility Room
All the amenities
To the rear of the extension with a separate entrance is a utility room containing a sink, washing machine, tumble dryer, airer and space for wet dogs to dry off (including doggy towels for cleaning your pets)!

The Sauna Room
The extension to the right of the house has a separate entrance to a wood clad room, hopefully giving Scandinavian vibes! A 4 person infrared sauna for perfect relaxation and well being, a changing area and a shower for refreshing yourself afterwards.
We do ask a surcharge of £60 per stay for use of the sauna to cover the additional cleaning and electricity

The Grounds
Peaceful outdoor space
The garden has a large patio with picnic table, benches and lots of pots of flowers and a large flower bed. The field next to the house is where we occasionally graze our sheep but if guests are staying with pets then it is perfect for safe exercise. It will also be great for kids to play ball or run about (so please clean up after doggies!).
The large parking area easily holds two cars with offroad parking.
